AI-first software design — build data layers agents can actually read
50k ft — Why care?
Dashboards and navbars are built for human eyes; agents only see tool-call text, which is why giving Claude raw database access goes wrong. The fix shown: store raw data plus workflow-generated summaries in separate tables and expose tools that return summary-level context first, pulling full transcripts only when needed.
10k ft — Key takeaways
• Design tool outputs for the agent, not a UI for a human
• Return full records only on explicit need to keep context small
• Store summaries next to raw data so agents fetch the cheap layer first

Did you lose sleep on a button that nobody's ever gonna press Google any SAS product right now? Click on any of them and tell me what you see probably some shit like this, right? Dashboard, navbar, every single pixel exists for the same reason You know human sits there and fucking looks at the graph AI agents never see or click any of this is what AI agents They call a tool and then they get a bunch of text. This is where most agent builds fall apart People are like let's just give claw access to my entire database But it can manipulate the raw data and then claw doesn't know what the fuck's going on and makes mistakes The question is how do you make like a piece of software that's optimized for AI to see let's say we're building like an AI first CRM I'm signing up for a database like this one create these two tables for every type of data You want your agent to access then you can create a series of workflows that will take that raw data Summarize it and then save it to the database how you can create tools for claw that will allow it to retrieve that data at the level of context It needs like it can get summarized data if it needs summarized data It only retrieves a full transcript if it absolutely fucking needs eight clawed stingy with the contact to summarize AI and humans look at data different You need to build software that AI looks at better all right
