The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation gives CAD 17,000 first grants (20,000 on renewal) to early-career representational artists worldwide, with no fee, no CV and rolling applications by post. The Awesome Foundation's $1,000 monthly micro-grants (US, UK, Australia, Canada chapters) are the fallback for abstract or non-painting work.

• Awesome Foundation chapters give $1,000/month with near-zero eligibility bar

There’s a seventeen thousand dollar grant for painters just starting out. No CV, no deadline, no fee, and it’s open worldwide.
It’s the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Yesterday I mentioned a fund paying painters up to fifty thousand, and I was honest that it wants around ten years of exhibitions behind you. This is the other one. This one is built for the beginning.
CAD 17,000 for a first grant. 20,000 if they fund you again. No application fee. And no deadline at all, they take applications right through the year from anywhere in the world. Last year they gave out close to 1.6 million between 93 artists.

There's a $17,000 grant for painters just starting out. No CV, no deadline, no fee, and it's open to artists anywhere in the world. It's called the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Yesterday, I told you about a fund that pays painters up to $50,000, and I was honest that it wants about 10 years of exhibitions behind you. This is the other one. This is the one built for the beginning. $17,000 Canadian dollars for the first grant. $20,000 if they fund you again. No application fee, and here's the part I love. There is no deadline, none at all. They take applications right through the year. From anywhere in the world. Last year, they gave out close to 1.6 million between 93 artists. If you work abstract, this one isn't yours, and you have to print the application, sign it, and post it. An actual envelope in 2026, I know. And if that rules you out, here's the second one. The Awesome Foundation gives away $1,000 every single month. No strings and no fee. And their eligibility rule is essentially this. If you can fill in the form, you can apply. No CV, nothing. There are chapters across the US, the UK, Australia, and Canada. You just pick the one nearest you. Here's what I actually want you to take from this though. Yesterday's fund had a 10 year bar on it. This one was built for people at the start. Not everything is gated.…
