There are five numbers that decide what your work is actually worth. Most artists guess all five, then blame the market.
It is not your talent. It is your maths.
One. Your size number. Height plus width in inches, times one rate you set and use on everything.
Two. Your cost floor. Materials, framing, and the commission a gallery takes, often half. Clear it or you are paying to give the work away.

There are five numbers that decide what your art is actually worth. Most artists guess all five, and the guessing is the reason it's not selling. Not to talent, your maths. So here are the five. One, your size number. Height plus width in inches, times a single rate you set. Five pounds, 10, 20. The exact rate matters less than picking one and using it on every single piece. Two is your cost floor, materials framing, and the commission gallery takes, which is often 50%. If your price does not clear that, you were paying to give your work away. Three is your comparable. Find three artists with a CV like yours. Not the ones you admire. The ones level with you. Same stage, same medium, same size. That band is your actual market. Not the blue chip on your feed. Four is your consistency number. Every piece priced on the same formula. So a collector can predict your prices. Random numbers do not read as flexible. They read as an artist who does not know their own worth. Five, your floor will not break. The number you will not go under, decided before anybody asks. Because in the room under pressure, you will cave. A discount comes off the value of work. It does not get added to the sale. Pricing is not a feeling you have on the day. It's the five numbers you work out and hold. Guess them and you will look like a hobby. Set them and you will look like a career. Follow for more on us, take some building a life as an artist.
