China just revealed a secret method for building chips without the need for EUV lithography machines. It represents a new approach to chip making, with “logic folding” serving as the standout innovation. Huawei plans to release the new chips this year; and something even bigger could be coming soon! #china #huawei #newtech #futureoftech #gigaqian shinobister   5w I want to be the first one to comment, man I love your material and I follow you 100%. This is massive.
Transcript excerpt
China just revealed a secret plan they've been working on since 2020. Why? Because they're about to release the tech that came from it this year. It's a new way forward for hardware coming out an opportune time because something absolutely massive could be on the way. If it's your first time seeing me I go by gigachin. I do business in China and I post here so you can see what's really going on over there and hopefully learn a lot in the process. You've probably heard of Moore's law. This is about geometric scaling. Double the number of transistors on a flat piece of silicon every two years by making them smaller. Huawei can't follow this law because back in 2019 US sanctions start to appear that block them from buying EUV lithography machines. You might have also heard of denards scaling which stated that as transistors get smaller their power density stays the same. That would mean smaller chips run faster without getting hotter using more power. Thing is this actually died in 2006 because as the chips got smaller current started leaking and the chips started melting themselves. That's why the clock speed stopped skyrocketing in the early 2000s and it's one of the reasons we have multi-core processors today. Huawei can't go smaller but going smaller comes with its own challenges. What if they could fix it all in one swoop? The beginning of their answer came six years ago when they got forced into a corner. They call it Tao's scaling law and if you want to know more about…
