x402 protocol — pay-per-crawl tolls for AI agents scraping your site
50k ft — Why care?
Frames the AI scraping lawsuits (Anthropic's ~$1.5B author settlement, NYT v. OpenAI) as a payment problem and points to x402, a 2025 protocol that revives the long-dormant HTTP 402 Payment Required status so agents pay a crypto micropayment to access content. Explanation is hype-heavy and ends in a paid Skool pitch.
10k ft — Key takeaways
• The '1991 slot' is HTTP status 402, reserved but unused until protocols like x402.
• Watch it as a monetization layer for content and APIs consumed by agents.
• x402 lets a site charge AI agents per request using stablecoin payments.

They are fighting over your data and you are not in the room.
We break down where AI and crypto actually connect inside the group. Link in bio or skool.com/coinpicksgenesis. A dollar a month.
Right now the biggest AI companies on earth are in court over scraping. Anthropic settled with authors for around 1.5 billion dollars last September. The New York Times case against OpenAI has been sitting open since December 2023.
Everybody frames it as a copyright fight. It isn’t. Strip it all the way down and the websites just want to get paid for what’s being taken from them.
Now the part almost nobody knows. There’s a payment slot that was written into the internet back around 1991 and then sat there unused for over thirty years. In 2025 they switched it on. It’s called x402.
What that means…

Listen, everybody listen, everybody listen. It's the future of your life. There's a whole bunch of lawsuits on Claude and ChadGBT because what they're doing is they're going and they're scraping all of the data of the internet and the website doesn't want that data to be scraped. So they sue ChadGBT or they sue OpenAI and they probably they settle and get money or whatever. But really what's happening, the website just wants money. So the future is where you input X-402 into your website, whatever website you have, you input X-402 and whatever agent wants to go and scrape your data can pay a toll booth fee. We got didn't that didn't exist before. That didn't exist. That actually unlocked in 2025. So X-402 is a payment protocol that was coded into the internet in 1991 and remained dormant until 2025. They unlocked it and they're using crypto, but specifically AI and crypto to access a new dimension of the internet that never before existed.
