@itsdesignertom riff on the AI-game-dev moment: a multiplayer voxel game shipped in a day, a banana-clicker sitting at Steam #6, Claude playing an AI-generated Pokemon clone. Cultural snapshot of indie-AI gamedev vs big studios.

When AI-powered game development hits different: • Dude built a multiplayer voxel game IN A DAY (ppl are mad( • Meanwhile someone’s banana-clicking game is Steam’s #6 for 10 months • Even Claude is having fun playing an AI-generated Pokémon clone • Big studios sweating while indies cook with zero budget The slop era is here and I’m absolutely here for it. zunakimon   46w 🔥🔥
Transcript excerpt
You guys are really out here just prompting games out of finair. Plod drops a new model, suddenly Levels.io has 5,000 players flying around a multiplayer voxel game that he built in a day. 1.3 million views and a microtransaction later. And he just might outlast Ubisoft. Oh, that's AI slop. That would never work mainstream, you say. Well, right now, a game about clicking a banana is the sixth most played game on Steam for the 10th month in a row. And if those players aren't having fun, you know who is the goddamn AI? Because not only did David Hershey use it to recreate Pokemon, he made the AI play it. Genius. These guys just prevented a war against machines with Pikachu. But Peter Yang built a Star Wars against the machines. In a single weekend, not a single line of code. Don't tell me about slop when we have AAA studios making junk like this. Long live indie games. And you know, I've always wanted to create an indie game. I have. And so I did. With this Choices Matter text adventure, I used lovable and mid-journey. But no, it wasn't enough. So I turned it into a visual game engine that anyone could use to create their own text adventure. Go make things and then show me and I will feature it.
