DLSS 5 mod wave — frame gen and neural rendering unlocked on older RTX
50k ft — Why care?
Roundup of community mods enabling DLSS 5 and frame generation on RTX 20/30/40 cards, first via an FSR redirect then a native FrameGen proxy, plus an OptiScaler fork that runs neural rendering before upscaling for up to 50% more FPS. DLSS 5 Autopilot on GitHub bundles the tools, and dual-GPU offload of neural rendering is demoed. Mods can trip anti-cheat.

DLSS 5 Mod Explosion

Transcript excerpt
There's been a pretty dramatic explosion of PC gaming mods in the past couple weeks, as if the entire community decided to flip Nvidia the bird and say, don't tell me what I can't do. But whether it's just good old-fashioned contrarian human spirit, or the inevitable result of PC gamers being squeezed from all sides by high prices and imperious future restrictions, is anybody's guess. But just in the past week, DLSS 5 and Frame Generation, which Nvidia says should only work with RTX 50 series GPUs, have been enabled on the RTX 40, 30, and 20 series, first via a redirect that used AMD's FidelityFX FSR solution for FrameGen, and then using Nvidia's native FrameGen via a proxy mod, allowing up to 4x FrameGen with an RTX 3080, and further demoed with an RTX 2060 on Thursday. Modders also addressed DLSS 5's performance impact with an opto-scaler fork that allows DLSS 5 neural rendering to be applied before DLSS super resolution upscaling, resulting in 50% higher frame rates in some tests, a method that has also been added to DLSS 5 Autopilot, which is available on GitHub and allows easier access to multiple community modification tools. This one was tested by Ancient Gameplays, and the performance uplift is significant, without a noticeable drop in visual fidelity. Even long-abandoned dual GPU support is making a comeback to some degree, though calling it SLI wouldn't be accurate. As demonstrated by developer Marcelo Guibo with two RTX 5060 Ti GPUs, DLSS 5 neural rendering can be…
