StopSlop is a GitHub skill file that bans filler phrases, throat-clearing openers, emphasis crutches and adverbs so Claude's copy stops sounding like Claude. The creator finds it removes most tells but notes the deeper problem: AI prose lacks a position, so the last 20% still needs a human voice.

10k ft — Key takeaways

• Deleting tells doesn't add opinion; take a stance yourself. • Drop a banned-patterns skill into your writing workflow. • Use AI for the first 80%, edit the last 20% by hand.

AI slop isn't a vocabulary problem, it's a stakes problem. Hedging, throat clearing, and adverb pileups are what writing looks like when nobody risks being wrong, and a model has no position it's afraid to defend. You can delete every tell on the list and the missing opinion survives the edit, which is why I think voice comes from what you're willing to claim, not from which words you cut.
Transcript excerpt
Thousands of developers needed a skill file to stop Claude from sounding like Claude. StopSlop is this GitHub project with a skill file that is just a skill for removing AI tells from your copy or your writing. There are a bunch of phrases and stuff here that stops your slot from getting out the door. Cut filler phrases, remove throat clearing openers, emphasis crutches and all adverbs. I guess what I'm wondering is when it says don't do this, does it give better alternatives? This is how I think of it. I use AI to create me something that's like it may be 80% there and the last mile 20% it's got to be me and this maybe removes like 85%. I think when I've used this it still comes out feeling AI like and there's no soul to it, so to speak. For any AI builder out there that's got to create content or write stuff that goes out to other humans and you don't want it being sloppy, check out StopSlop. I think it's a pretty decent skill. I've used it a bunch myself.
