50k ft — Why care?

First hand-cut mosaic: 2x2 cm Winckelmans tiles cut with two nippers, glued to fiberglass mesh with Titebond, mounted on Knauf Aquapanel with Mapei Adesilex P10, cured 30 hours, brown grout, and a 5mm silicone expansion gap. Took a month, not two weeks.

10k ft — Key takeaways

• Assemble on fiberglass mesh, then mount • Budget twice the time you expect • Leave a perimeter expansion gap sealed with silicone

(no tools tagged) mesh-backed mosaic

1k ft — Deep-dive / try it

This was my very first time making a hand-cut tile mosaic. Going in with a total DIY mindset, I originally thought it would take me two weeks max, but it ended up taking a full month to complete. Specs- Everything is hand-cut from 2x2 cm @winckelmans.1894 tiles using only two pliers: one from @speedball_art and a Leponitt Nipper. I first glued the tiles onto a fiberglass mesh with Titebond glue. For the kitchen walls, I laid Knauf Aquapanels and mounted the mosaic using Mapei Adesilex P10 Tile Adhesive. I left the adhesive to cure for 30 hours before applying brown grout. Finally, because I left a 5 mm expansion gap between the tiles and surrounding surfaces all around the perimeter, I finished everything off with matching brown silicone. #tile #tilemosaic #mosaic #dıy
