Transcript excerpt
This artist has spent three years inventing a new painting technique. Velocity painting coined by artist Nick Boltman explores the freedom of movement and the beauty of physics. Each of his paintings begins with a smooth gradient and a single moment of focused effort. He practices a number of attempts before intensely engaging his muscle memory for a single critical movement across the canvas. Let's look at three of his recent works. In this piece, Mirage, Nick begins by creating a rich background gradient before applying his signature painting style. For many artists, releasing paint naturally onto the canvas is where they declare themselves finished. But for Nick, this is a starting point. In this piece, Monarch, we see Nick's dedication to spontaneity and get to understand how he focuses on creating a juxtaposition between the organic natural paint formations and the geometric digital-like aspects of his paintings. Frustrated by his lack of freedom and the ability to express himself artistically in the corporate world, he's been led to the creative discovery of his new style. I share videos every day celebrating the work of living artists.
